These directions given are from the M56 at Chester. Most other routes involve arriving at Porthmadog. In this case take the A497 to Pwllheli and then follow the directions below.

From the M56 follow the signed 'North Wales A5117/A55' Queensferry route.

Follow the A55 through the Conway tunnel. Keep going until you pass the A5 turnoff to Betws-y-Coed and take the next exit on the A487 to Caernarfon.

Follow this road going through Caernarfon taking the Porthmadog and then Pwllheli signs and continue to follow Pwllheli as the road turns into the A499.

From Pwllheli proceed west on the A499 towards Abersoch. At Llanbedrog opposite the Glyn-y-Weddw pub turn right onto the B4413 towards Mynytho and Aberdaron. It should take you 10-15mins from Llanbedrog to the cottage.

It is 2.5 miles to the left turn to Rhiw, (signposted Rhiw and Plas-yn-Rhiw) The turn is about 100 yards past the LLangian and Abersoch turnoff as you leave Myntho.

Keep on this road for 5 miles exactly. Follow the road round to the left, (signposted Rhiw) and over the pontoon-style bridge.

Keep going up the very steep hill past Plas-yn-Rhiw National Trust property.

After you enter Rhiw and just before you reach the brow of the hill, turn left between the two white cottages, Trofa and Pen-y-Groes. (Looks like you are heading into someone’s drive.) Parking is on the left, before Awelon. If you pass a small Chapel at the top of the hill you have missed the turning, carry on to the crossroad and reverse your tracks.

To drop off your luggage you can drive down through the N.T. gateway (very narrow, so retract your wing mirrors).

Bay View is the nearest of the 3 terraced cottages.

Best method for parking to unload is to swing hard right immediately after you go through the National Trust gateway, and then back up the track towards the derelict house with the rusty corrugated iron roof. Stop(20m) when you see the grass path leading down towards the gate to Bay View.

If you stay on the upside of the cottages, you can park on the track and unload into the conservatory. If the grass is wet parking at the side of the cottage is not recommended as you may well get stuck.

Don’t forget to take your car back through the gateway to the parking area as parking is not allowed on the N.T. land.

If you are arriving in the dark a good torch is essential. The main kitchen/living room is reached through the conservatory and the light switch is next to the rear door to your left.

If it is raining be very wary of the wet grass and don’t venture to far from the gateway.
